U.S. Congress members Barbara Lee and John Lewis visited Emery Secondary School on Friday, April 20th. There was an assembly for the 11th and 12th grade students to hear from the renowned Civil Rights activist, Congressman John Lewis. This was an incredible opportunity for our students to meet social justice legends up close and personal.

The Emery Unified School District pays off a 1.3 Million Loan to the State. Tom Torlakson, State Superintendent, formally returned local authority to EUSD, after 10 years since the loan. Congratulations to EUSD!

A big thanks to Clif Bar Company for providing 200 volunteers and Rebuilding Together for organizing a huge make over day at Emery Secondary School. Walls and doors were painted, lockers were cleaned and furniture were donated and built. The event took the entire day and included lunch from food trucks paid for by Clif Bar!

At our annual volunteer banquet, we take notice to all our hardworking volunteers for taking their time to work with Emery schools and their students. The Emeryville Marriott generously hosted the venue, donating their banquet room and providing tables, utensils and beverages. Catering was provided by The Bread Project.

The Emery Ed Fund understands the economic climate is difficult, particularly for our EUSD families. A historic donation of 758 school supply kits, consisting of more than 35 important supplies for every student in the Emery Unified School District.

Ikea has been a big part in providing the Emeryville schools and district offices with furniture and supplies. Their most recent donation was much needed supplies for the art shop, which the art students now take full advantage of.

The Target Success Academy of Emeryville Secondary School campaigned a Dance-a-thon fundraiser. Participants joined in on hours of dancing and music, which helped support and raise money for their upcoming field trip to Bahia, Brazil.

March 2nd marked a special day, of Dr.Suess’ 106th birthday. Volunteers came by to read out loud, even though the weather was full of clouds. The children, who were overflowing of eager, waited patiently for their reader. As soon as someone walked in with a book, the kids dropped their tasks to take a look.
